7-Day Nyerere Safari & Zanzibar Beach

You are collected from your Zanzibar hotel and flown by light aircraft, in about an hour, to an airstrip in Nyerere National Park. Your guide meets you on landing and the drive to camp doubles as your first game drive. In the late afternoon, head out again to explore the lakes and river channels near camp.

Nyerere is shaped by the Rufiji River and its chain of lakes. Spend the morning on a game drive looking for lions, elephants, giraffes and the endangered African wild dog, then take to the water in the afternoon on a boat safari, gliding past pods of hippos, basking crocodiles and a wealth of birdlife as the sun sets.

Nyerere is one of the few Tanzanian parks where walking safaris are allowed. Set out in the cool of the morning with your guide and an armed ranger to learn about tracks, plants and the smaller creatures you miss from a vehicle. After lunch and a rest in camp, enjoy a final afternoon game drive.

After breakfast in camp, fly back to Zanzibar in about an hour. You are met on arrival and driven to your beach hotel, around an hour away on the coast, with the afternoon free to swim and relax.

Spend the day with a local guide in Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, wandering its narrow lanes past carved wooden doors, the Old Fort, the former slave market and the busy Darajani market. On the way, stop at a spice farm to see, smell and taste the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla that made Zanzibar famous. Return to your beach hotel in the late afternoon.

Enjoy a day at leisure on Zanzibar's coast. Relax on the beach and swim in the warm Indian Ocean, or arrange optional excursions through your hotel, such as snorkelling at Mnemba Atoll or a sunset dhow cruise.

Enjoy a final breakfast by the ocean before your transfer to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport for your onward flight.
